Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Data Collection Training for Hospitals
This Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC)-sponsored course will train hospital staff on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data collection.
To receive credit, you are required to watch at least 95% of each video without skipping or fast-forwarding. Otherwise, your progress will not be recorded and you will not receive credit for the course. Upon course completion, you will be prompted to complete an evaluation and then will be able to download your certificate. Please be sure to download your certificate as soon as possible.

Target Audience
Any hospital staff, who will be involved in sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data collection
Learning Objectives
- Describe the basic demographics and terminology related to sexual orientation and gender identity
- Discuss the importance of SOGI data collection to identify health inequities in Maryland facing LGBTQ+ people and communities and to inform recommendations to reduce and eliminate barriers to care
- Describe the existing health inequities facing LGBTQ+ communities and their impact on the collection of SOGI data
- Discuss Unconscious bias, with emphasis on cisheteronormative bias, and its impact on SOGI data collection and quality healthcare
- Describe best practices for collecting SOGI data employing non-verbal, patient self-reporting
- Demonstrate methods to collect SOGI data during in-person, telephonic or virtual encounters in a patient-centered and culturally-aware manner
