Johns Hopkins is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the Emergency Neurological Life Support Course developed by the Neurocritical Care Society


This program will prepare healthcare professionals to become certified in emergency neurological life support.  The goal of this program is to improve patient care and outcomes beginning in the first hour of a neurological emergency.  Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses are encouraged to attend this course.  This program provides an algorithmic approach to care using  protocols, practical checklists, decision points, and suggested communication for application during neurologic emergencies.

After registering for this program, participants will:

  • Attend a one-day live course via Zoom. Note: We are anticipating an in-person option on the Hopkins campus which will be decided in October
  • Be granted access to the online portion of the program, which includes access to all protocols and teaching materials as well as assessments for each subject area

The one-day live program is taught by Johns Hopkins Neuroscience and Neuro Critical Care experts. Participants will be able to obtain their CME/CE credits after passing the written quizzes for all the modules available on the website of the Neurocritical Care Society

    Upon successful completion of the course, the participant is certified for two years.

    Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and Emergency Medical Services personnel.

    Note: Johns Hopkins and Johns Hopkins Bayview Nurses must secure the time needed to attend this course through their supervisor. Registration for the course through this site does not guarantee this time.

    Jose Suarez, MD
    Dr. Suarez is currently the Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Neurology, and Neurosurgery and Director of the Neurocritical Care Division at the Johns Hopkins University. Dr Suarez has authored or co-authored over 150 publications in the areas of stroke and critical care neurology and neurosurgery in reputable journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Stroke, Critical Care Medicine, and Neurology. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Stroke and Neurocritical Care and is the editor of several books including the Critical Care Neurology and Neurosurgery textbook. He is also the Vice President and President-Elect of the Neurocritical Care Society.

    Salia Farrokh, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP, FNCS
    Dr. Farrokh is the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit Clinical Specialist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has published and presented on topics of neurocritical care and the treatment of neuro infectious diseases. Dr. Farrokh is a Fellow of the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) and member of the NCS Pharmacy Committee.

     

     

    Elizabeth (Betsy) Zink, PhD, MSN, RN, CCNS, CNRN
    Dr. Zink is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Neurocritical Care Unit at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has worked as a staff nurse, nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist in the areas of neurosciences and stroke, managing clinical care, research and education at the patient, staff and systems level. She has a track record of leadership in quality improvement efforts, organizing interprofessional teams and translation of evidence into practice. She has published and presented locally, nationally and internationally on topics of neurocritical care and stroke. Her research interests focus on applying biomarker measurement of early rehabilitation interventions in neurocritical care and stroke and exploring the effects of team performance on stroke patient outcomes.

     Other ENLS certified Johns Hopkins Faculty and Staff will join the ENLS course faculty at the discretion of the planning team.

     

     

     

    This program may be used to fulfill specific CEU requirements such as stroke (6 hours), trauma (5 hours) and pharmacy (5.5 hours).
