Learning Objectives
After participating in this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:
- Explain how appropriate pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) dosing is associated with an improved body mass index (BMI) as well as both protein and fat absorption in individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF).
- Summarize how health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is improved in individuals with CF with a good nutritional status, and why a low BMI is a risk factor for mortality in adolescents with CF.
- Assess the current evidence describing the use of appetite stimulants to improve weight gain in individuals with CF.
