EBP in NRP Curriculum Overview

For the Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Model 5th Edition


Purpose Statement:

The Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) curriculum in the Nurse Residency Program is designed to foster a spirit of inquiry and support the professional development of nurse residents. This curriculum provides foundational education in the Johns Hopkins EBP Model, equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to integrate evidence into clinical decision-making, contribute to practice improvement, and uphold standards of high-quality, patient-centered care.

Overview of Learning Tracks

1. Core Track (2 hours)

Introductory exposure

  • Includes foundational lessons only
  • Builds basic awareness of key concepts
  • Ideal for learners new to the topic

Core Track Goal

Introduce new graduate nurses to the foundational concepts of evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement (QI), and research, and build basic awareness of the Johns Hopkins EBP Model and available institutional resources.

2. Expanded Core Track (4–6 hours)
Broader understanding with opportunities to apply concepts and further exploration of the phases of the PET process

  • Includes all Core lessons
  • Adds intermediate content and practical examples
  • Suitable for learners seeking a fuller grasp of concepts and initial opportunities to apply them
