Difficult conversations can be just that – difficult to have, easy to avoid – whether dealing with an underperforming employee, a difficult coworker, or a patient in your care. Having the skills and tools to navigate them is priceless. In this course, we will review the factors and causes of ineffective communication. We will examine immediate applicable strategies and scripts that can assist you in having hard conversations. Our goal is to provide participants with the tools needed to communicate more effectively in daily life.
This course is for health care providers who want to improve their communication skills while engaging in difficult conversations.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the relationship between difficult communication and patient safety.
- Describe strategies for improving communication in health care settings.
- Discuss examples of structures and processes to support effective communication.
